A native of Bucks County, April creates in her workshop home in
Wrightstown, PA. Throughout her life April Ann itched to travel
and visually experience the world; so she spends her time
exploring and "Journaling Life" thru her art, a good amount of
it in her home in Northern Spain. The light is different there,
naturally. The light, culture, color, surroundings, and
experiences are reflected in April's work. "Wherever I may be,
I enjoy exploring how to represent the elements of life around
me. It is an exploration of the world and bringing the inner
visual image out on canvas. "The influence of April trekking in
Northern Spain, Southern France, Morocco, Cuba, northern New
York, London, England and Delft, Holland to name a few places
are apparent in her work here locally; the color and
inspiration comes through. "We take our past into our future. "
Pastel is April's medium of choice for working en plein aire,
selected for its rich color, texture and immediate results.
Almost always you'll find April sketching and painting local
scenes with graphite, watercolor and ink; wherever she may be.
It's "Journaling of Life" it's what she is about. Through
creating April finds avenues to document her thoughts and
opinions, and express the colors and mental images that exist
in her mind's eye. Journaling the world as she sees it and
sharing it with others is key to her work; visually documenting
experiences and relationships that have shaped her life. With
context for the paintings coming from life's experiences and
surroundings.
April continues to explore bringing the inside out as a life
goal. April Ann studied at Temple University and Tyler School
of Art. She enjoys independent studies in life drawing. April
has a background in botanical illustration. "The best thing is
painting with artist friends and creating with my partner Paul.
He and I work in multimedia; metals, stone, repurposed
materials, wood… you name it we use it." April sponsors the
growth of fine art expression thru art class workshops and
bringing young people the idea of a "Journaling Life" workshop
for young students; most recently teaching at R.I.'s Henry
Barnard School, a part of Rhode Island College.
April Ann's sculpture "Leaf Down" was in the prestigious
Phillips Mill 91st Juried Exhibition. Her paintings have shown
in Philips' Mill and Ellarslie Open juried exhibitions.
Recently she was honored to receive first place at Willingboro
Art Alliance Juried plein air competition and received an award
at the Absecon Art Alliance plein air Paint-out. April's
gallery shows included "The Way We Saw Morocco '' Wrightstown,
"Perspectives In Travel" New Hope PA, and a private exhibition
at Newtown's own Countryside Gallery.
