Rekindle is not just about the past—it is about the spark that remains within us. For me, photography—especially black and white—has always been a way to capture the quiet beauty found in simplicity. Without the distraction of color, each image becomes a meditation on light, shadow, texture, and truth. It slows time, allowing stillness to emerge from even the most fleeting moments. In these frames, I find not only aesthetic beauty, but emotional clarity.

This exhibition is a reminder that no matter where we are in life—whether in joy, transition, loss, or longing—we each carry an inner spark. A memory, a desire, a truth that waits patiently to be seen, felt, and rekindled. These photographs are my way of honoring that spark, and inviting others to recognize it within themselves.

About the Artist

Roland Michael holds a BA in Marketing with a minor in Art History from Rutgers University, and an Executive MBA from Strayer University. His career has spanned both nonprofit and for-profit sectors, with national and international experience in marketing and operations.

Roland’s journey with photography began at Rutgers. After stepping away from the camera for many years, it was during the stillness of the covid pandemic that he rediscovered a set of images from a second trip to Paris—a moment that rekindled his creative spark.

Since 2020, he has returned to photography with a renewed perspective, approaching it as a form of presence and reflection. Black and white photography, in particular, has become his medium of choice for its ability to strip away distraction and reveal the quiet power of a moment.
